Boost Your Podcast’s Promotion with Engaging Podcast Audiograms: A Guide to Creating and Sharing

Wondering how to promote your podcast on social media and effectively reach your target audience? Podcast audiograms are one of the most powerful tools you can use to increase your visibility and engagement on social media.

Using audiograms in your podcast marketing strategy can help you reach new audiences, increase your podcast’s visibility on social media, and boost engagement with your existing followers.

Still wondering about how to start your podcast? Check out our blog post about starting your podcast.

What is a podcast audiogram?

An audiogram is a visual representation of audio, typically used to promote audio content on social media. Audiograms combine audio with a waveform, subtitles, and graphics to create a visually compelling piece of content that can grab your audience’s attention and entice them to listen to your podcast.

Audiograms can be different styles but one main feature is having a moving element to indicate to your followers and viewers that there is audio playing.

Below are some examples of audiograms. In this example from Stack’n’Days podcast the moving element is the play progress bar which moves across as if the audio is playing on a media player.

This example from Recipe to the Road podcast uses the classic audio wave to show that there is audio playing behind the lettering.

Or for the School Plus Kids podcast  we put the moving audio wave over a static audio wave to add some contrast and depth.

How can I make podcast audiograms?

Creating audiograms may seem daunting, but there are several tools available that can make the process easy and straightforward. My two favourite sites to make audiograms are Canva and Wavve

How to make podcast audiograms on Canva

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I absolutely love Canva! I use it to create podcast cover art, social media posts, logos and even use their stock photos for these blogs.

One more function of Canva is to make audiograms. The beauty of making these on Canva is you can make them as simple or as detailed as you like.

  1. To start I open the podcast cover image and resize it to whatever social media video size I want. For example I would hit resize and type in “Instagram reel” and resize to that. If you do not have Canva Pro you can create a blank Instagram reel project and copy and paste the elements from the podcast cover and move them around until they look right.
  2. Upload the audio snippet you would like to use. You can do this by simply dragging it from your computer to Canva.
  3. Click the audio from the “Uploads” section on Canva to bring it into your project.
  4. Once everything is lined up it’s time to decide what moving element you would like to include. If you already have an audio wave in your design you could replace it with a moving one. You will find these in the Elements section.
  5. Once complete you can download to your computer and share to your phone, or download directly to your phone from the Canva app.

What I like about Canva is that you have a lot of creative control. After you’ve completed the above steps you can play around and bring in different animations, text and elements making it as complicated as you like.

How to make podcast audiograms on Wavve

Wavve is a popular tool for creating audiograms. I highly recommend Wavve if you want to create quick and simple audiograms. You don’t have as much creative control as Canva but you definitely save time.

With Wavve, you can upload your audio file, choose a waveform design, add text, and export your audiogram.

Wavve has a limited free monthly plan but the paid plans are very reasonably priced and might be worth it if you want to create engaging content quickly.

How to use podcast audiograms to promote your podcast

Here’s how you can use audiograms to promote your podcast:

Share Audiograms on Social Media

One of the best ways to promote your podcast using audiograms is to share them on social media. You can create audiograms that highlight the most interesting and engaging parts of your podcast and post them on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Be sure to include a link to your podcast in the caption, your link in bio or in the audiogram itself to make it easy for your followers to find and listen to your podcast.

Use Audiograms in Your Email Marketing

Another effective way to use audiograms for podcast promotion is to include them in your email marketing campaigns. Audiograms can help grab your subscribers’ attention and encourage them to listen to your podcast. You can create audiograms that promote your latest episode or highlight interesting segments from past episodes and include them in your email newsletters.

Add Audiograms to Your Website

Finally, you can add audiograms to your podcast’s website to promote your latest episode and encourage visitors to listen to your podcast. You can create audiograms that highlight the most interesting parts of your podcast and embed them on your website’s homepage or episode pages.

Using audiograms in your podcast marketing strategy can help you reach new audiences, increase your podcast’s visibility on social media, and boost engagement with your existing followers. By sharing audiograms on social media, using them in your email marketing campaigns, and adding them to your website, you can create engaging content that encourages your audience to listen to your podcast. So, give audiograms a try and see how they can help you promote your podcast more effectively.
